Lifestyle

In many cases, acid indigestion and heartburn can be reduced in frequency or even stopped altogether by simple changes in diet and lifestyle. The following are general measures that may help reduce the incidence of heartburn-causing reflux:

  • Do not lie down right after eating or within two to three hours of bedtime.
  • Elevate the head of the bed four to six inches.
  • Lose weight if overweight.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Instead of large meals, eat smaller, more frequent meals.
  • Avoid:
    • Chocolate
    • Coffee and alcohol
    • Fried and fatty foods
    • Mint products (i.e., peppermint, spearmint)
    • Carbonated beverages and citrus fruits or juices
    • Tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, and vinegar
    • Aspirin and most pain medicines (other than acetaminophen).

But for overall health benefits, more is involved. Nowadays, we know a lot about some of the most important habits that contribute to health and well-being, as well as those habits that impede our progress toward good health. These principles are based on common sense. Keep in mind that our goal is to identify and practice those habits that nourish our most essential biological functions and nutritional needs, particularly the needs of the cells that contribute to the proper functioning of the digestive system and thereby contribute to our overall well-being.

Look over the following information and, when you find something that appeals to you, give it a try. Experiment with one habit, then another. You will soon discover, as countless others already have, that cultivating these habits will bring you rich rewards in the form of better health, more vitality, and a general sense of well-being unlike any you have ever experienced before!

  • Always sit down when you eat. Relax, breathe. Strive to create an orderly, nourishing, and harmonious environment around meals. Create meaningful mealtime rituals that complement the principles of balance and harmony in the foods themselves.
  • Approach each meal with an attitude of gratitude.
  • Whenever possible, eat Cell Tech nutrition products with meals, particularly digestive enzymes and probiotics.
  • Chew each mouthful of food thoroughly. There may be no greater nutritional habit than this one.
  • Select the highest quality organic foods and beverages whenever possible.
  • Learn the techniques of proper food preparation, from wild food foraging and whole food selection to proper cooking and final presentation. The object is to preserve and enhance the nutritional value of the foods you choose.
  • Proper hydration is one of the foundational habits of naturally healthy people. Experts suggest a minimum of 8 glasses of purified (non-chlorinated) drinking water every day, or half your body weight in ounces. Water is essential to all biochemical functions and reactions. An easy, reliable, and effective step towards better nutrition may be simply to give attention to the body’s need for proper daily hydration.
  • Exercise moderately and frequently. Walking every day for 20 to 30 minutes may be all that most people require. Exercise increases oxygen levels in the blood and throughout the body. Exercise is also the very best way to circulate lymphatic fluid, bring necessary nutrients to cells, and remove undesirable and toxic waste matter.
  • Get enough sleep at night and rest during the day if necessary.
  • Above all, learn to listen to your body, and pay attention to what you hear!

There is substantial and reliable documentation to support our conviction that each of the habits outlined above is worth cultivating. However, nothing will be more important or convincing for you than the practical experiments you conduct yourself. You are the one who will determine which of these habits complement your desire to achieve better health. The determination to succeed will be yours alone. It is our sincere hope that your own personal journey of self-discovery will result in the attainment of better health, based on the positive and wholesome lifestyle choices you make now and into the limitless future.
